Undergraduate Major in Social Data Science
Declare a Social Data Science Major
Current UMD students interested in declaring Social Data Science (SDSC) as a primary or secondary major must complete the change of major process. The process is as follows:
- Initiate a change of major or addition of major request through the TerpEngage student portal.
- Once you initiate the request in TerpEngage you will receive an invitation to join the INFO Change of Major ELMS page. Follow the steps in ELMS to complete all modules, including the SDSC Registration Projection form.
- After you have completed all required tasks and submitted the required documents, an INFO advisor will review your request. It may take up to 15 business days to process your change of major or addition of major.
Note: INFO cannot lift registration blocks imposed by a student's current major.
Questions about this process can be directed to @email.
Academic Advising
All SDSC students enter the program in the College of Information (INFO). Students will work with an INFO Undergraduate Student Services Advisor for at least one semester in order to complete Mandatory Advising and develop a full academic plan.
Students must declare a track in SDSC by the time they reach 60 credits.
Students entering SDSC with more than 60 completed credits must declare a track in their first semester.
Upon declaring a track in Social Data Science, students will transition to advising in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences or the School of Public Health.
Advising questions can be directed to @email.
